My pet peeves – deserving abundance
Recently, I saw a quote from one of the best selling self-help authors in the world. He said, “If you want to have more money, improving your money consciousness is an important first step in attracting the abundance of financial wealth you deserve.”
The good news is that the world is waking up to the idea of improving money consciousness. The bad news is that the goal suggested here is actually part of our problem with money in the first place.
Obviously there is nothing wrong (or right) with having more money. But as a reason for raising consciousness, it has several serious flaws. The real goal is to be the person that we were meant to be. To grow into our own potential. To be as connected to Source as possible. To bring Light into this physicality of our humanness. When we truly focus on this, we will either have money or not, depending on a lot of factors – but most importantly – it won’t matter one way or another!!
It is sort of like saying, I will be happy when I have x,y, or z. No, the truth is we have to learn how to be happy first – then all of that other stuff actually CAN show up. We have to match the vibration BEFORE something is manifested. It’s not personal, it’s physics!
And we can’t trick the Universe either! It is manipulation if we start from “I want to have more money, therefore I am going to learn to be happy; if I am happy then money will show up”, etc. Such thinking is not awareness and it is missing the real point.
Money is a spiritual tool to help us to be able to see ourselves – our limiting beliefs, our amazing potential and everything in between. Its value is being a reflective surface to show us what we cannot see for ourselves – about ourselves!!.
I believe money consciousness is this very thing – the awakening to the fact that money (not the amount that we have or don’t have) is our partner for discovering ourselves!
If abundance is one of my big pet peeves, the other is thinking that we do or don’t deserve something – such as financial wealth or love. Here is the trap: if we can deserve, that means we can also not deserve. Sounds like an invitation for judgment and shame to me.
I believe that we are ALL children of God, created equally. We ALL deserve to be the amazing creatures that we were born to be. And NOTHING we do or think changes that.
When we dish up platitudes like “you deserve to be treated fairly or you deserve to have all of the good things in life” our soul knows that “of course I deserve such and such. I am human, therefore I get all that life has to offer.” But our brain goes into very left brain thinking, this either/or, separation thinking that says if today I deserve it, tomorrow I may not. Get what I am saying here? There is no deserving. There just IS.

A friend of mine wrote this description of Nogie’s book…and I thought it so epic in its concise yet engaging description, that it was worth sharing.
The Currency of Connection, with blurbs on the back by Harville Hendricks and Lynn Twist, both extremely well known and very highly regarded authors and speakers.
Her book is amazing – a fine synthesis and presentation of some of the best of the innovative ideas on the leading edge of the transformation movement – she connects these ideas under a brilliant umbrella from the fields of relationships, economics, psychology, and technology. She identifies and clarifies the main kinks in how and why our lives may not be quite what we prefer, not quite what we can readily imagine, like ease, work that feels like play, a sense that we have, in Nogie’s words, “a sense of exquisite sufficiency”. Since our lives are steeped in riches, what would it feel like to live worry free? Imagine what it would feel like! After all, we didn’t hear gunshots in the night, we slept in cool clean sheets, we had a delicious cup of coffee when we got up, we had a warm shower and slipped into lovely clothes and drove off in air conditioned chariots! Few people anywhere, no matter how massive their wealth or how simple their means even know they can feel happy enoughness!
What if it’s possible to shift into that feeling, and that feeling begins to waft and swirl through your life and….changes everything. This perspective shift is life-changing!
There are long, and certainly valuable, treatises written on these subjects, but here everything is connected in a beautifully simple, but profound book.
